When I started homeschooling my kids, most of the response I got from people was negative. They thought that I will be spoiling my children’s future. I am not against people who chose to educate their kids in schools. Every parent choose what’s best for their kids. After 5 years of homeschooling do I really think that my decision was worth it? YES I really do think its worth it. Because in these five years I have gotten close to my kids in such a way that it was difficult getting close to them when they were going to school. Because then we had no time to spend together. But now we are spending 24 hours, 7 days a week together. So what change I have noticed while homeschooling my kids.
Before homeschooling there was more shouting and screaming to do everything on time. To study like a pro, to stay at the top, because of the constant pressure of competition among students from schools. There came a day when I was about to break down, feeling numb and tired of all this artificial and unnecessary things and customs we have created, and are following blindly. That was it. The moment I and my husband decided to switch to homeschooling. I became deaf to whatever anyone said, because I knew what’s best for my kids. And in these five years our life has totally changed.
- The shouting and screaming has long gone, and we have become more relaxed. I still sometimes speak in strict voice if they do anything wrong. But mostly, we try to sit and talk it off.
- Constant pressure of staying at the top has gone, every kid has their own ability to do better.
- Bond between us has gone even stronger, now we understand each other, I as a parent understand what they want, and kids understand what I want from them.
- We have become a team, doing everything together.
- Kids have started to learn how to respect each other.
- We try new ways to learn and study, and we learn how to improve ourselves from our mistakes.
- We take risks in studies and get the results we want.
- We try our best in everything and celebrate every little achievement.
- We have learnt so much about our religion, which we were not doing, because of less and no time due to the routine we had before homeschooling.
I believe that homeschooling is just like planting a seed. You water it, Nourish it with care and love, protect it from the storms and bad days and after years of hard work, you will see a big and strong tree standing in front of you. Our kids are just like those seeds, we have to nurture it wit our hard work and love and most importantly Duas in every step of the way. We have to make their foundations so strong that when they grow up and face the storms, they will be standing strong in them In shaa Allah. We may not get the results of homeschooling in an instant, but yes after years of investing your 100% and constantly making Duas, we will one day be sitting Under their shades of love and protection, In Shaa Allah.
