π Hadith & Stories
Authentic stories about the power of Surah Al-Fatihah
A group of the Prophet's Companions were travelling and stopped near an Arab tribe. They asked for hospitality, but the tribe refused.
Soon after, the chief of that same tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion). The tribe tried everything but nothing helped. They remembered the travellers and came asking for help.
One Companion said he would help, but since the tribe had refused them hospitality, he asked for a reward. They agreed to give a flock of sheep.
The Companion went to the sick man and began reciting Surah Al-Fatihah, gathering his saliva and blowing gently on the bite. The man was completely cured by Allah's permission.
The Companions took the sheep but said: "We will not take this until we ask the Prophet ο·Ί." When they told him what happened, the Prophet ο·Ί smiled and said:
β Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί (Sahih al-Bukhari 5736)
A Companion named Abu Sa'id ibn al-Mu'alla was praying in the mosque when the Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί called out to him. He did not respond because he was in prayer. After finishing, he went to the Prophet ο·Ί.
The Prophet ο·Ί said: "What prevented you from coming? Did Allah not say: 'O you who believe, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you'?" Then he said: "I shall teach you the greatest Surah in the Qur'an before I leave the mosque."
The Prophet ο·Ί then started to leave, and the Companion reminded him of his promise. The Prophet ο·Ί said:
β Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί (Sahih al-Bukhari 4474)
The Messenger of Allah ο·Ί said:
This is agreed upon by all scholars β Surah Al-Fatihah is a pillar (rukn) of every single Rak'ah. Without it, the prayer is not valid!
Ibn Abbas narrated that while Jibreel (Angel Gabriel) was sitting with the Prophet ο·Ί, he heard a creaking sound from above and lifted his head. He said:
Then an angel descended who had never come down to earth before. He greeted the Prophet ο·Ί and said:
"Rejoice in two lights that have been given to you, which no Prophet before you was given: Al-Fatihah and the concluding verses of Surah Al-Baqarah. You will never recite a single letter from them except that you will be given what they contain."
